American Food in the UK

The amount of American food in the UK is staggering, whether it's products that originated from America, products produced there or products that are owned by an American company, there really is no denying that it's everywhere. However in saying this there are still lots of items that are available in America but are not yet in the UK. A few examples would be things such as the Lucky Charm Cereal and Cool Whip.

Today though most American foods anyone could want are available, and if not, there's probably a similar food of a different brand name out that can be bought. In saying this there are a few brands, or type of products in a certain brand that you can't get in the UK, or the UK version might just not taste the same.

If this is the case then there are several options for finding them. Try looking in independent corner shops and small businesses. If fact if you ask really very nicely they may even order something in specific product. Finding these shops can take forever though as shops that may one week have imported the food, might not of the next week as it is not readily available.

The rise for American food in the UK is growing, due to the amount of travelling most people do its not unlikely that at some point while abroad people have eaten something that is not in the UK. Another big factor is down to the films and television we watch, while watching something filmed in America it's common to see and hear about foods and drinks that wouldn't be seen in the UK.

One good store to look in is Costco, they are an American shop so they do sell a lot of American products. Sainsbury's and the store Partridges are also good at stocking American food, as is Harrods, though with Harrods you can literally go in and ask them to order anything, so as long as your willing to pay for it Harrods is a great shop for imported foods.

There are also a lot of online shops catering to American living in the UK and to UK residents looking for American food. Cyber candy is one such online store who have an actual shop in London. Cyber candy does sell mainly sweets and such like, but you can also buy cereals, rare pop tarts and spreads.

Americatessen.com is one of the largest suppliers of American food in the UK who sell the much loved A.I Steak Sauce, Jif peanut butter and A&W Root Beer to name just a few products. You can also phone them for details about their nearest retailers in your area. One downside to this website though is that you have to register with them. For some people though this wouldn't be an issue, there's not only English people wanting American food, there's also American expats home sick for the food they know and love.
