Minute Maid Lemonade and Orange Juice

Minute Maid was originally called 'Florida Food Corporation',' which was a branch of the National Research Corporation. To begin with they were making an orange juice concentrate in a powder form, this was in 1945, and was to be sold to the army during the war.

However the war ended before the factory had been built, and they decided then to make frozen orange juice instead. This frozen orange juice was in a concentrated form with 80% of the water removed.

When they started to sell their product to the public they lacked the money to properly advertise it. For this reason the head of the company, John M Fox, went round door to door handing out free samples of the juice to get its name known. By doing things this way Fox really did build the company up from scratch and helped turn it into the well known drink it is today.

Due to their success they were bought by Coca-cola in 1960, who still own them today. It wasn't until 1973 that they produced their first 'ready-to-drink' orange juice which is what they are now known for selling. This brought them into what was known as the 'orange juice war' and took them into competition with brands such as Tropicana. Coca-cola held the highest sales of cola and was trying to push Minute Maid into holding the same position in the fruit juice market as Coca-cola held in the cola market.

Today they have a wide range of products from concentrated juice, such as orange juice and apple juice. Minute Maid saw a gap in the healthy drinks market and soon added enhanced products such as Minute Maid Multi-Vitamin, this contains extra vitamins and Minute Maid Heart Wise which has been proven to help lower your cholesterol. They also have a wide range of lemonade products all made from real lemons including pink lemonade and ice tea lemonade, they also have a light lemonade which has fewer calories.

The firm favourite has always been the regular orange fruit juice but since the arrival of the different favors such as the pomegranate blueberry, it is clear that some people do prefer the newer flavors. Lovers of Minute Maid love the wide range of flavors and colourful products from a simple glass of orange juice with breakfast, to a pick-me-up throughout the day. They also work well for kids' lunch boxes and as an on-the-go drink.

Minute Maid is available at Tesco's for £2.20 for a 1L bottle, and in America a 64oz carton costs around $3.50-$4.00 so we're pretty even on this one.
